Connect Claude & ChatGPT to Help Scout

Ask your AI to read a Help Scout conversation, find the right saved reply and answer the customer or leave a note for your team. It can look up customers and organizations, move and assign conversations, and pull reports on volume, response times and customer happiness.

Try asking

  • “How many conversations are waiting in Unassigned and Needs Attention in our Support mailbox?”

The AI finds the mailbox and lists its folders with conversation counts.

  • “Read the latest conversation from [email protected] and draft a reply using our refund saved reply.”

It finds the conversation by customer email, reads every thread, fetches the saved reply text and saves a draft reply for you to review.

  • “Add an internal note on conversation 1234: waiting on the dev team, follow up Friday.”

It adds a note to the conversation that only your team can see.

What your AI can do

Conversations and replies

Read full threads, reply to customers or save drafts, add internal notes, and change status, assignee or mailbox.

Customers and organizations

Find, create and update customers and organizations, and list every conversation from one company.

Team reports

Pull conversation volume, productivity and happiness reports for any date range, filtered by mailbox or tag.

  • “Assign all pending conversations tagged billing to Lars.”

It lists pending conversations with the billing tag, finds Lars among your users and sets him as assignee on each one.

  • “How did our first response time and resolution time look last month?”

It pulls the productivity report for last month with first response time, resolution time and replies sent.

  • “What was our happiness score in Q3, and which tags were busiest?”

It combines the happiness report with the conversations report and gives you the score, the split of ratings and the top tags.

Set up in three steps

  1. 1

    Pick the app

Create a free PipMCP account and choose Help Scout from the app list.

  2. 2

    Paste your key

Paste the App ID and App Secret from Help Scout. Open Your Profile > My Apps > Create My App (any redirect URL works) and copy both values. This is an OAuth connection, so it needs the PipMCP Pro plan.

  3. 3

Add the link to your AI

You get a personal MCP link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:

Click your name, then Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector. Paste your link as the Remote MCP server URL. Switch it on from the + menu in a chat.

Questions

What can the AI do in Help Scout?

The AI can list and read conversations and their threads, reply, add notes, and change status, assignee, subject or mailbox. It can find, create and update customers and organizations, read mailboxes, folders and saved replies, and pull volume, productivity and happiness reports. It can also start a new conversation in a mailbox.

Can the AI send replies without me seeing them first?

It can send replies, and they are emailed to the customer. It can also save a reply as a draft, so you review and send it in Help Scout. In PipMCP you can require approval for replies, or switch the reply tool off and use notes only.

Does the AI see my Help Scout API key?

No. Your App ID and App Secret is encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. Once saved, it is not shown again, not even to you. The AI only works through the tools you switch on.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on. Risky actions, such as sending a reply to a customer, can require your approval before they run. Every tool call is logged, so you can see what the AI did.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT, go to Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced, turn on Developer mode and add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link works in Claude under Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector, and in Cursor.

What does it cost?

Help Scout connects with OAuth, and OAuth connections need the PipMCP Pro plan or above. PipMCP also has a free plan with no credit card, but it does not include this connection. Paid plans bill per completed task.
