Connect Claude & ChatGPT to PEX

Ask your AI which card purchases are missing a receipt, what a cardholder can still spend, or to block a card in PEX. It can list card accounts and transactions, search purchases and declines, add notes, receipts and tag values, and read vendor bills and spending rulesets. Expense questions get answered without exporting reports.

Connect PEX free

Free plan, no credit card. Takes about a minute.

Try asking

  • “Which purchases from last month have no receipt?”

The AI searches card purchases in that date range with the review status NoReceipt.

  • “How much can Maria still spend on her card?”

It finds her card account and reads how much is left under its limits.

  • “Block the card for John Smith.”

It sets his card account to Blocked, which stops spending. Setting it back to Active re-enables the card.

What your AI can do

Cards and balances

List card accounts with status and balance, see remaining limits, check the business balance and block or re-enable a card.

Transactions and receipts

List and search transactions, purchases and declines, and add notes, receipts and tag values for expense coding.

Vendors and bills

List and read vendor bills and vendors, add notes to a bill and create new bill-pay vendors.

  • “Attach this receipt PDF to Tuesday's office supplies purchase.”

It finds the purchase and attaches the file as a receipt on the transaction.

  • “Tag the last three software purchases with the Marketing department.”

It reads your tag definitions and sets the tag values on each transaction.

  • “What is our business balance, and which vendor bills are due this week?”

It reads the available business balance and lists vendor bills filtered by due date.

Set up in three steps

  1. 1

    Pick the app

Create a free PipMCP account and choose PEX from the app list.

  2. 2

Enter four values: your production App ID (ClientID) and App secret (ClientSecret) from the Dashboard at developer.pexcard.com, and the PEX API username and password you received from PEX Operations (or a PEX administrator login). PipMCP uses them once to create a token, which PEX keeps valid for six months.

  3. 3

Add the link to your AI

You get a personal MCP link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:

    1. Click your name, then Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector.
    2. Paste your link as the Remote MCP server URL.

Questions

What can the AI do in PEX?

The AI can read card accounts, balances, remaining limits, transactions, purchases, declines, receipts, tags, spending rulesets, vendors, bills and the connected user's profile. It can add notes, receipts and tag values to transactions, add notes to bills, create vendors and change a card's status if you switch those tools on.

Does the AI see my PEX credentials?

No. Your PEX credentials are encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save them, they are not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, so you can start read-only. Changing a card's status can stop spending, and setting a card to Closed is permanent, so that tool can require your approval before it runs. Every tool call is logged.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT go to Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced and turn on Developer mode, then add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.

What does it cost?

PipMCP has a free plan with no credit card required. Paid plans bill per completed task. You also need your own PEX account.

Why does PEX need an App ID and a username?

PEX uses two sets of credentials. The App ID and App secret identify the app you registered at developer.pexcard.com. The PEX API username and password identify the user in your business. PipMCP uses them together once to create a token, which PEX keeps valid for six months.
