Set up in three steps

Pick the app
Create a free PipMCP account and choose Roam from the app list.

Paste your key
Paste a Roam API key. In Roam, click the Settings gear, go to Roam Administration > Developer and click Add ApiClient. Give it a name, choose API key as Authorization type and save. Then tick the Access Scopes the AI needs, for example chat, group, meeting and user read/write, save again and copy the API key.

Add the link to your AI
You get a personal MCP link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:
1. Click your name, then Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector.
2. Paste your link as the Remote MCP server URL.
3. Switch it on from the + menu in a chat.

Questions

What can the AI do in Roam?

The AI can list chats, read and search messages, list and search meetings, read transcripts and participants, ask questions about a meeting, and read users, groups and calendar events. It can send, edit and delete messages, add reactions, create groups and add members, and create calendar events and meeting links.

Does the AI see my Roam API key?

No. Your Roam API key is encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save it, it is not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, so you can start with reading only. Sending a message reaches other people, and deleting a message cannot be undone. These actions can require your approval before they run. Every tool call is logged.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT go to Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced and turn on Developer mode, then add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.

What does it cost?

PipMCP has a free plan with no credit card required. Paid plans bill per completed task. You also need your own Roam account.

Which access scopes does the API key need?

The Access Scopes you tick on the API client in Roam decide what the key may do. Tick the scopes that match the tools you switch on, for example chat for messages and meeting for transcripts. If a scope is missing, Roam refuses the call.
