Pick the app
Create a free PipMCP account and choose Jira Software Cloud from the app list.

Paste your key
Enter your Jira site name (the part before .atlassian.net), the email you log in to Jira with, and an API token. To create the token, sign in at id.atlassian.com, open Security > API tokens and click Create API token.

You get a personal MCP link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:
Click your name, then Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector. Paste your link as the Remote MCP server URL. Switch it on from the + menu in a chat.

What can the AI do in Jira Software Cloud?

It can read boards, board projects, sprints, backlog and board issues, epics, releases and the agile fields of an issue, such as sprint, epic and estimate. It can create and update sprints, move issues into a sprint, back to the backlog or into an epic, remove issues from an epic, update epics and set estimates.

Does the AI see my Jira Software Cloud credentials?

No. Your Jira Software Cloud credentials are encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save them, they are not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, so you can start read-only. Starting or closing a sprint and moving many issues at once change your team's plan, so those tools can require your approval before they run. Every tool call is logged.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT go to Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced and turn on Developer mode, then add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.

What does it cost?

PipMCP has a free plan with no credit card required. Paid plans bill per completed task. You also need your own Jira Software Cloud site.

How is this different from the Jira connection?

The Jira connection works with issues: searching, creating, editing, statuses, comments and work logs. Jira Software Cloud covers the agile part: boards, sprints, backlog, epics, estimates and releases. Both use your email and an API token, so you can connect both. PipMCP is an independent service and is not affiliated with Atlassian.
