Questions
What can the AI do in IPinfo?
It can look up an IP address's location, hostname, network and company, and check its carrier, privacy status, residential proxy use, place and abuse contact. It can also read ASN details, list the domains on an IP and the IP ranges behind a domain, read WHOIS records, and show your request usage. All tools only read data.
Does the AI see my IPinfo access token?
No. You paste your IPinfo access token into PipMCP once. It is encrypted at rest, never shown to the AI and never shown again after you save it. The AI only gets the results of the tools you have switched on.
Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?
Yes. Switch on only the lookups you want, for example IP location and privacy checks without WHOIS. Any tool can be set to require your approval before it runs. Every tool call is logged.
Does it work with ChatGPT?
Yes. In ChatGPT, open Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced, turn on Developer mode and add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.
What does it cost?
PipMCP has a free plan, and you do not need a credit card to start. Paid plans are billed per completed task. You connect your own IPinfo account, so lookups count toward your IPinfo plan's limits.
Does every lookup work on my IPinfo plan?
Not always. What a lookup returns depends on your IPinfo plan, and some data, such as place information, is only there on plans that include it. The get_usage tool shows your plan's request limits and how many requests you have used.
