Connect Claude & ChatGPT to Adafruit IO
Ask your AI for the latest sensor reading, how a value changed over the last day, or to send a value to a feed in Adafruit IO. It can list and create feeds and groups, read data points and chart data, and look at your dashboards and triggers. You get answers about your devices without opening the web interface.
Free plan, no credit card. Takes about a minute.
Try asking
“What is the latest reading on my temperature feed?”
The AI finds the feed and reads its most recent data point with the time it was recorded.
“How did humidity change over the last 24 hours?”
It gets aggregated chart data for the feed over the last 24 hours and describes the highs, lows and trend.
“Send ON to the garage-light feed.”
It sends the value to the feed. Devices or triggers listening to that feed may act on it.
What your AI can do
Feeds and data
List, create and update feeds, read data points and the latest value, and send new values.
Charts and history
Get aggregated feed data for the last hours or a date range, with a resolution you choose.
Groups, dashboards and triggers
Create groups and send values to several feeds at once, and read dashboards, their blocks and triggers.
“Create a feed called soil-moisture in my garden group.”
It creates the feed with a name and key and puts it in the group you name.
“What is on my Greenhouse dashboard?”
It finds the dashboard and lists its blocks, such as charts, gauges and buttons.
“Which triggers do I have set up?”
It lists your triggers and can read the details of any one of them.

Questions
What can the AI do in Adafruit IO?
The AI can read your user profile, feeds, feed data, chart data, groups, dashboards, dashboard blocks and triggers. It can create and update feeds, create groups, send values to one feed or several feeds in a group, and delete a single data point.
Does the AI see my Adafruit IO key?
No. Your Adafruit IO credentials are encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save them, they are not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.
Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?
Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, so you can start read-only. Sending values can make your devices act, and deleting a data point cannot be undone, so both can require your approval before they run. Every tool call is logged.
Does it work with ChatGPT?
Yes. In ChatGPT, open Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced, turn on Developer mode and add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.
What does it cost?
PipMCP has a free plan, and you do not need a credit card to start. Paid plans are billed per completed task. You also need your own Adafruit IO account.
Why do I need to enter my username as well as the key?
Most Adafruit IO API addresses include your username, so PipMCP needs it to reach your feeds, groups and dashboards. You find both the username and the Active Key under My Key on io.adafruit.com.
