Connect Claude & ChatGPT to incident.io

Ask your AI which incidents are active, who is on call tonight, or to post an update on an ongoing incident. It can read incidents with their updates, activity, participants and actions, list follow-ups and post-mortems, and check on-call schedules. It can also declare incidents, change severity or status, and create or update actions and follow-ups.

Connect incident.io free

Free plan, no credit card. Takes about a minute.

Try asking

  • “Which incidents are active right now?”

The AI lists incidents with an active status category, newest first, with severity and status.

  • “Who is on call for the Platform schedule this weekend?”

It finds the schedule and lists the on-call entries between the start and end of the weekend.

  • “Post an update on INC-231: fix deployed, monitoring for 30 minutes.”

It shares the update on the incident. It is posted to the incident channel and to subscribers.

What your AI can do

Incidents and updates

List and read incidents with filters, see updates, activity and participants, declare incidents, edit them and share updates.

Actions and follow-ups

Create and update actions during an incident, create and update follow-ups afterwards, and list post-mortem documents.

On-call and setup

List on-call schedules and who is on call, and read severities, statuses, incident types, roles, teams and users.

  • “What happened during the checkout outage?”

It reads the incident's activity log and updates and sums up status changes, messages and role changes.

  • “Which follow-ups from last month are still outstanding?”

It lists follow-ups and shows those still outstanding, with incident, assignee and priority.

  • “Declare a minor incident: login emails are delayed.”

It looks up your severities and creates the incident. This creates a Slack channel and may page and notify people.

Questions

What can the AI do in incident.io?

The AI can read incidents, updates, activity, participants, actions, follow-ups, post-mortems, on-call schedules and entries, and your severities, statuses, incident types, roles, teams and users. It can declare and edit incidents, post updates, and create and update incident actions and follow-ups.

Does the AI see my incident.io API key?

No. Your incident.io API key is encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save it, it is not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, so you can start read-only. Declaring an incident creates a Slack channel and may page people, and updates reach the incident channel and subscribers. These actions can require your approval before they run. Every tool call is logged.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT go to Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced and turn on Developer mode, then add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.

What does it cost?

PipMCP has a free plan with no credit card required. Paid plans bill per completed task. You also need your own incident.io account.

Which permissions should I give the API key?

When you create the key in incident.io, you tick the permissions it gets. Give it only what the AI needs, for example read-only access if you only want answers about incidents and on-call. incident.io then blocks anything outside those permissions, on top of the tools you switch on in PipMCP.
