Pick the app
Create a free PipMCP account and choose Exa AI from the app list.

Paste your key
Paste your Exa API key. Sign in to the Exa dashboard at dashboard.exa.ai, open API Keys and create a key, or copy one you already have.

Add the link to your AI
You get a personal MCP link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:
1. Click your name, then Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector.
2. Paste your link as the Remote MCP server URL.
3. Switch it on from the + menu in a chat.

Questions

What can the AI do in Exa AI?

The AI can search the web, fetch page contents and get cited answers. It can start, follow and stop research runs and read their events and results. It can list and read your monitors and their runs, run a monitor right away and update a monitor's search, schedule or status.

Does the AI see my Exa API key?

No. Your Exa API key is encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save it, it is not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, for example search and page contents without research runs. Starting a research run uses paid Exa credits, so you can require your approval before it runs. Every tool call is logged.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT, open Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced, turn on Developer mode and add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.

What does it cost?

PipMCP has a free plan, and you do not need a credit card to start. Paid plans are billed per completed task. You also need your own Exa account.

What are research runs and monitors?

A research run is an Exa agent that researches a question across the web. It takes time, uses paid credits and can return results in a structure you define. A monitor is a scheduled search in your Exa account that sends its results to the monitor's webhook. The AI can read, run and update monitors you already have.
