Connect Claude & ChatGPT to api.video

Ask your AI which videos got the most plays last month, whether an upload has finished encoding, or to update titles and tags in api.video. It can import videos from a URL, manage live streams and players, read captions and chapters, create AI summaries of videos and pull analytics for plays, views and watch time.

Try asking

  • “Import our demo video from its public URL and call it Product demo.”

It creates the video with that title and imports the file from the URL.

  • “Is the Product demo video ready to play yet?”

It checks whether the video has finished uploading and encoding.

  • “How many plays did we get last month, by country?”

It breaks the play metric down by country for that date range.

What your AI can do

Videos

Import videos from a URL, update titles, descriptions and tags, set thumbnails, read captions and chapters, check encoding status and delete videos.

Live streams and players

Create, update and read live streams, and see your custom players with their settings.

Analytics and summaries

Get plays, views and watch time as totals, over time or broken down by country or device, and create or edit AI video summaries.

  • “Rename the onboarding video and add the tag training.”

It updates the video's title and tags. Only the fields you ask for change.

  • “Summarise the Q3 all-hands recording.”

It creates an AI summary of the video and shows the abstract and key takeaways.

  • “Which live streams do we have?”

It lists your live streams and can read each one's status, player and playback links.

Questions

What can the AI do in api.video?

It can list and read videos, encoding status, captions, chapters, tags, players, live streams, AI summaries and analytics for plays, views and watch time. It can import and update videos, set a thumbnail, create and update live streams, create and edit AI summaries and delete a video.

Does the AI see my api.video API key?

No. Your api.video credentials are encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save them, they are not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, so you can start read-only. Deleting a video removes it from your library and stops it playing everywhere it is embedded, so it can require your approval before it runs, like changing thumbnails or summaries. Every tool call is logged.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT go to Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced and turn on Developer mode, then add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.

What does it cost?

PipMCP has a free plan with no credit card required. Paid plans bill per completed task. You also need your own api.video account.

Which api.video key should I use?

Use the Production key to work with your real videos. The Sandbox key only works against sandbox.api.video, and the Production key needs an api.video plan. Paste the key in the API key field and leave the password field empty.
