Connect Claude & ChatGPT to PagerDuty
Ask your AI who is on call, which incidents are open, or what happened during last night's page. It can open, acknowledge, resolve and snooze incidents, add notes to the timeline, create maintenance windows and put someone else on call for a shift. You get answers during an incident without clicking through the PagerDuty web app.
Free plan, no credit card. Takes about a minute.
Try asking
“Who is on call for the Platform schedule right now?”
The AI finds the schedule and lists who is on call now, with the escalation policy it belongs to.
“Which high-urgency incidents are still open?”
It lists triggered and acknowledged incidents with high urgency, with service, assignees and when they started.
“What happened with incident Q1ABC2 last night?”
It reads the incident's log entries, alerts and notes and sums up the triggers, notifications, acknowledgements and escalations in order.
What your AI can do
Incidents
List, open, acknowledge, resolve, snooze and reassign incidents, change urgency and priority, and read alerts, notes and the full log.
On-call and schedules
See who is on call now or in a time range, read schedules and escalation policies, and create overrides to cover a shift.
Services and teams
Read services, teams, users and priorities, and list or create maintenance windows for planned work.
“Acknowledge Q1ABC2 and add a note that we are rolling back the release.”
It sets the incident to acknowledged and adds your note to its timeline.
“Cover Maria's shift on the Platform schedule tomorrow from 8 to 16 with Jonas.”
It finds Jonas's user ID and creates a schedule override for that time range, so he is on call instead.
“Put the Checkout API in maintenance from 22:00 to 23:00 tonight.”
It creates a maintenance window on that service for the hour, so no new incidents are opened during the work.

- 2
Paste your key
Paste a PagerDuty REST API key and the email you log in to PagerDuty with. In PagerDuty, go to Integrations > Developer Tools > API Access Keys and click Create New API Key, and tick Read-only if you only want to read. You can also create a personal key under My Profile > User Settings > Create API User Token. Copy the key, because it is shown only once.
- 3
Add the link to your AI
You get a personal MCP link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:
Click your name, then Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector. Paste your link as the Remote MCP server URL. Switch it on from the + menu in a chat.
Questions
What can the AI do in PagerDuty?
The AI can read incidents with their alerts, notes and log entries, and read services, schedules, on-calls, escalation policies, teams, users, priorities and maintenance windows. It can open, acknowledge, resolve, snooze and update incidents, add notes, create maintenance windows and create schedule overrides.
Does the AI see my PagerDuty API key?
No. Your PagerDuty API key is encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save it, it is not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.
Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?
Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, so you can start read-only. Opening an incident pages the on-call responders, and changes like resolving an incident or overriding a schedule can require your approval before they run. Every tool call is logged.
Does it work with ChatGPT?
Yes. In ChatGPT go to Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced and turn on Developer mode, then add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.
What does it cost?
PipMCP has a free plan with no credit card required. Paid plans bill per completed task. You also need your own PagerDuty account.
Why does PagerDuty need my login email?
PagerDuty asks for the email of a valid user when an API key changes something, such as acknowledging an incident or adding a note, so the action is recorded under that person. PipMCP sends the email you enter with those requests. If you use a read-only key, the AI can only read.
