Connect Claude & ChatGPT to Ironclad

Ask your AI where a contract is in Ironclad, who still has to sign, or which obligations are coming up. It can search workflows, launch a new one from a template, update attributes and follow approvals, signatures, comments and documents. It can also search, create and update contract records, counterparty entities and obligations.

Try asking

  • “Where is the Acme NDA, and who still needs to approve it?”

The AI finds the workflow, shows its current step and lists the approver roles with their status.

  • “Launch an NDA for Nordic Foods ApS.”

It checks the NDA template's launch form and starts a workflow with the counterparty name and the template's fields.

  • “Who has not signed the Acme MSA yet? Send them a reminder.”

It reads the signature status and emails a reminder to the signer who is still pending.

What your AI can do

Workflows

Search and read workflows, launch new ones from templates, update attributes, and read or add comments and documents.

Approvals and signatures

See approver roles and their status, approve, check who has signed, send for signature and remind signers.

Records, entities and obligations

Search, create and update contract records, counterparty entities and obligations, and read record and obligation types.

  • “Which obligations are due this quarter?”

It searches obligations with a filter and lists due dates, status and assignees.

  • “Find all contract records with Acme as counterparty.”

It searches records and returns them with their properties and attachments.

  • “Download the latest document on the Acme MSA workflow.”

It lists the workflow's documents and downloads the one you want.

Set up in three steps

  1. 1

    Pick the app

Create a free PipMCP account and choose Ironclad from the app list.

  2. 2

    Paste your key

Enter your Ironclad Client ID and Client secret, plus the email of the Ironclad user whose permissions the AI should use. In Ironclad, open your profile menu > Company Settings > API (this needs the API add-on), click Create new app and save the client secret, which is shown once. Under Grant Types enable Client Credentials, add the workflow, record, entity and obligation scopes under Requested Resource Scopes and click Save Changes. PipMCP uses these to get access tokens, so there is no separate sign-in.

  3. 3

Add the link to your AI

You get a personal MCP link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:

    1. Click your name, then Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector.
    2. Paste your link as the Remote MCP server URL.
    3. Switch it on from the + menu in a chat.

Questions

What can the AI do in Ironclad?

It can search and read workflows, workflow templates, approvals, signature status, comments, documents and participants, plus contract records, record types, entities, obligations and obligation types. It can launch workflows, update workflow attributes, approve, send for signature, remind signers and add comments. It can also create and update records, entities and obligations.

Does the AI see my Ironclad credentials?

No. Your Ironclad credentials are encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save them, they are not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, so you can start with lookups only. Sending for signature and reminding a signer email people, approving moves a contract forward, and comments can notify participants, so these can require your approval before they run. Every tool call is logged.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT, open Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced, turn on Developer mode and add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.

What does it cost?

Ironclad connects with OAuth, and OAuth connections need the PipMCP Pro plan or above. PipMCP also has a free plan with no credit card, but it does not include this connection. Paid plans bill per completed task. You also need your own Ironclad account.

Whose permissions does the AI use in Ironclad?

The AI acts as the Ironclad user whose email you enter during setup. PipMCP sends that email with each request, so Ironclad applies that user's access. Pick a user whose permissions fit what you want the AI to do.
