Connect Claude & ChatGPT to Attentive

Ask your AI whether a customer is subscribed to SMS, to tag your VIPs, or to add people to a segment, and it works in your Attentive account. It can look up a person's SMS and email subscriptions and custom attributes, and read segments. It can also subscribe and unsubscribe people, create or update people, set custom attributes, record custom, purchase, add-to-cart and product view events, and manage segments, with your approval if you want it.

Set up in three steps

Pick the app
Create a free PipMCP account and choose Attentive from the app list.

Paste your key
Paste an Attentive API key from a private custom app. In Attentive open the integrations page and click + Create App. Enter an app name and contact email, set Write permission for the APIs you want, such as Subscribers, Custom Attributes, Custom Events and eCommerce, and click Create. Copy the API key from the modal, since it is shown only once.

Add the link to your AI
You get a personal MCP link. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:
1. Click your name, then Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector.
2. Paste your link as the Remote MCP server URL.
3. Switch it on from the + menu in a chat.

Questions

What can the AI do in Attentive?

It can read your company details, a person's subscriptions and custom attributes, segments and bulk jobs. It can subscribe and unsubscribe people, create or update people, set custom attributes, record custom, purchase, add-to-cart and product view events, and create, update and change the members of segments.

Does the AI see my Attentive credentials?

No. Your Attentive credentials are encrypted at rest and never shown to the AI. After you save them, they are not shown again, not even to you. The AI only sees the results of the tools it calls.

Can I control what the AI is allowed to do?

Yes. You choose which tools are switched on, and the API permissions on your Attentive app set a limit too. Subscribing sends an opt-in message and events can trigger Journeys that message people, so these can require your approval before they run. Every tool call is logged.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes. In ChatGPT go to Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced and turn on Developer mode, then add your PipMCP link. Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan: Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. The same link also works in Claude (Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector), Cursor and other MCP clients.

What does it cost?

PipMCP has a free plan with no credit card required. Paid plans bill per completed task. You also need your own Attentive account.

Will people get a text when the AI subscribes them?

Usually, yes. Unless single opt-in is set, a new subscriber receives an opt-in text or email. Unsubscribing may send a confirmation message, and events such as purchases or cart additions can trigger Journeys that send messages.
